RE: louisiana campgrounds

We enjoyed Sam Houston Jones State Park in Moss Bluff just north of Lake Charles. I have never stayed at the KOA in Lafayette, but know people that have stayed there, and it does get good reviews.
There are also some parking lot looking campgrounds along I-10. One at the Iowa exit behind the MickieD's, I don't know the name. Another at the Duson exit called Frog City RV Park. There's also one at the Egan exit.

RE: cable & sat tv hookup

Here's a link to a .pdf file of instructions for a simple wiring modification to allow use of the existing cable connection for satellite input. Works for me.
Link fixed.
I used the above instructiions on my system. The only difference is I had the two separate feeds for Sat and Cable, but I needed the sat feed to go to the living area. I don't show it here, but there is an adapter that lets you feed in bothe the sat and cable on one side and has one output so you don't have to switch any jumpers when changing from sat to cable.

RE: carlsbad caverns

We stayed at the KOA in July. Yes it was very nice, but It was way too far to drive to the caverns. It is more like 1 hour to get there. Carlsbad RV is much closer and looked nice when we passed in front. If we would have stayed at Carlsbad we would have been able to go back to the RV and wait till it was time to go see the bats fly. Instead of being stuck there all afternoon with nothing to do. The KOA is also far from city of Carlsbad. I do not understad why they moved so far away from the city and the caverns. I do not recommend KOA.

RE: POLL: Weather Protection for RVs

"2"
I use a shed to extend the life of the RV. We're not the kind of people that replace an RV every couple of years. I hope to keep it maybe 10 years.

RE: Champion Generators in Nat'l Parks or Forests

When we were charging our batteries using our Honda 2000s in parallel (around one hour of use daily from 1:00 - 2:00).
I'm new to camping and I am looking at getting a gen. So I just have a question. Why do you need two Honda 2000's in parrallel just to charge the batteries? Wouldn't 1 1000 do the job?

RE: Another RV accident

Very interesting!
I am living in the campground just across the interstate from there and never saw it or anything on the aftermath of it. Looks like it happened late in the evening or early morning. What day and time did you see it.
Of course, it is about 10:00 pm when I get back to the campground and leave early afternoon to go to work. Have not heard anyone mention it or heard it on the news.
Looks like bad news for the RV'er.
That is a bad exit if you are going too fast, but he was not up as far as the exit yet according to the pictures.
leeman
This happened on Wednesday 10-1-08. I came across it around 7:00PM. I do not think they were exiting. The rv was lying ahead of the exit.
If you find out anything, please let us know.

RE: Step up rear kitchen/ dining like Dutchmen Denali 31rgb-M5

My wife is sold on this floor plan, but even though Dutchmen has a nice looking product,it seems from what i have read,it's not a solid camper.I don't want to purchase this camper, and have it spend more time at the dealer than what we can enjoy it.Does anyone know of a manufacturer model that has a layout like this model.
My wife also liked that floor plan. We saw it on a Northshore, which has the same model number since it is also made by Dutchman.

RE: Towing with 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel

I would be interested in knowing what weights some people are towing in a 5th wheel setup. I have a 2008 F250 Super Duty with super springs added.Thanks.
Take alook at my sig. The 5ver weighs about 9,000 lbs. I don't have the Cat Scales weight ticket handy, but I can tell you I'm am well below all my weight limits. I do not have a bedroom slide, If I had the same unit with a bedroom slide I would be close to the rear axle weight rating.
I also have the 2008 F-250. And it tows the 5ver very well. We towed it through the Texas hill country on I-10 with no strain at all.

RE: Plugged In?

As you can see by now people do things differently. Both sides have been doing the same thing that works for them. So my conclusion is do what you feel is right for you. Plugged in with refer on or off. Or unplugged neither is right or wrong.

RE: Southwest Houston

Riverside is not accepting reservation even in December. I think they are full with insurance adjusters. I Made a reservation at South Main RV.

RE: Plugged In?

I'm no expert, but I have mine plugged in with the refer on. I'm just to lazy to load and unload everytime we want to go camping. It's much easier to leave everthing in the refer.

RE: I-10 eastbound thru Lake Charles

Avoid going east thru Lake Charles on I-10. The best route to take would be to take the 210 loop east then exit at Broad street, take a right and follow the road to Hwy 90, take another right. Stay on 90 till you get to Iowa and take Hwy 165 north, then get back on I-10.
Westbound is OK a little bumpy, but the traffic flows. The problem on the eastbound lane is, it is reduced to 1 lane from Lake Charles to Iowa.
Bump. Went down I-10 east out of Lake Charles today and it is still bad. I still recomend the above route to get around it.

RE: Diesel fuel availability in TN

I think the problem was with gas not diesel. When I was in nashville 2 weeks ago, the diesel and gas were at the same price.

RE: more DirectTV questions

I can think of several reasons why I might want multiple tv's on the same program.. For example as I move about the house I can continue to watch the showThen put them all on the same channel. But does that mean you should be forced to have them all on the same program everytime you turn them on?
I have my den and kitchen set up like this. why use two recievers to watch the same show. The two room or too close to each other to be able to watch two different shows at the same time. At one time my kids rooms were also on the den reciever and they had to watch what I was watching, call it parental control. And also I wouldn't put two recievers in a RV.

RE: I-10 eastbound thru Lake Charles

Too late, we came that way yesterday on I-10 from Westlake to New Orleans and it was a nightmare. Not only the construction, there was also an accident. I could not believe the height of the bridges with so little shoulder on the road. We are now at the French Quarter RV Resort and have been told when we leave here on I-10 it is even worse. I can't imagine that.
We just drove I-10 from Crestview FL to Lafayette 6 days ago(except for the I-12 bypass). I10 was clear the whole way, maybe a little construction but nothing to slow you down, to Crestview. After that I don't know.

That's Iowa, La., for folks thinking Iowa. I'm a native of Louisiana and I didn't know there was an Iowa, La.
Also, pronounce it I-O-way not I-O-wa
